ANOTHER ANIMAL

"Another Animal" (Universal / Republic; 2007)

Reviewed by Snidermann

So as Tony Rombola, Shannon Larkin and Robbie Merill of Godsmack waited for Sully Erna to get over a severe case of writer's block, they decided to go back into the studio and write a few tunes (they wrote 40, of which only 14 were actually used). Then, they teamed up with Whitfield Crane of Ugly Kid Joe and Lee Richards of Dropbox and Another Animal was born.

Anyone familiar with these groups know the one thing they have in common and that is making killer music. This entire project is well thought out and it delivers a powerful musical punch. As you may remember from the Ugly Kid Joe days, Whitfield Crane?s vocals are a little strange and take a little getting used to; however, when you finally get into the groove, you discover that Crane's style is a perfect fit.

If this hodgepodge group of musicians were stay to stay together, Another Animal would have a big future.

Rating Guide:

A classic. This record will kick your ass.

Killer. Not a classic but it will rock your world.

So-so. You've heard better.

Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.

Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
