ASONO

"Asono" (Fishface Records; 2006)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

Asono's self-titled, six track EP is sturdy modern rock in the vein of bands like The Killers and The Hives. That's both the good news and the bad news.

The good news is, of course, that is you like that particular genre, you'll probably like what you find on "Asono." The songs, for the most part, are mid-paced rockers with solid walls of guitar, a blistering lead or two and a vocalist who not only has decent pipes but drives it all forward at the same time (think Jon Bon Jovi or Brett Michaels).

The bad news is that, while the tracks on this CD are certainly entertaining enough, they probably won't stick with you very long and instead will be absorbed into the collective of bands that sound the same. "Asono" is certainly listenable but doesn't really stand out on its own.

Asono: Jason Denhart - bass; Jonny Ross - vocals, guitar; Oli King - drums; Andrew Simmons - guitar.

So-so. You've heard better.

Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.

Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
