AT THE GATES

"The Nightmare of Being" (Century Media; 2021)

Reviewed by Snidermann

At The Gates' "The Nightmare of Being" is simply one of the purest metal releases I have witnessed in quite some time. It has all the usual aspects of metal music: thundering musical presentation, outstanding vocals and killer production values, all of which make this an album to take notice of.

Now, with all that being said, I found some of the aspects unique. I mean, since when does a saxophone make an appearance on a metal recording? Another thing I found strange is the classical music orchestration that makes an appearance mid-way through ... but it just adds to the overall flavor of this recording.

At the Gates has been around since 1990 and it shows. They have a well-thought-out presentation and they kick metal ass. "Spectrum of Extinction" is well worth the time and effort, killer from start to finish. If you want to get your metal on, At The Gates are the perfect band to do just that.

Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.

Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
