BANGOVER
"Hibernation Devastation" (Independent; 2025)
Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton
Bangover's "Hibernation Devastation" should probably require a prescription to listen to. It's seven full-on thrash tracks, complete with fast-chugging riffs, a pummeling rhythm section and vocals that scream and growl without turning into unintelligible banshee demon wailing. All of the tracks run a surprisingly healthy 4+ minutes, especially the closing (and title) track, which tops out at a stunning 7 minutes and 26 seconds. That's a long time to keep thrashing! Your neck and legs should be in great condition in order to bang your head and mosh properly.
You know you're in for a fun ride when the first song is dedicated to the classic horror film, "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," although the title and lyrics here are changed to "The Texas Chainsaw Thrashacre." Other tracks worth noting are the angry "Scum fo the Earth" and the racing "Tannhauser Gates," which features Domo Dixon of Gama Bomb.
Thrash fans will find Bangover a breath of fresh air and a joy to listen to. But keep in mind the words of the almighty Lemmy Kilmister: "Don't try to dance to this. You'll fuck yourself up."
