BROKEN TEETH

"Broken Teeth" (Perris; 1999)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

If you like your rock'n'roll raw, raunchy and rock hard, Broken Teeth is for you. Sounding like a cross between early AC/DC and other bands of the 70s hard rock era (i.e., Starz, etc.), Broken Teeth are a pure sex, drugs and rock'n'roll band. We're talking nasty guitars, a rough-edged bass, pounding drums and a vocalist (Jason McMasters, formerly of Dangerous Toys) who sounds like he's gargled vodka and smoked a pack of cigarettes before taking the microphone.

With titles like "She's Gonna Blow" and "Stick It In," Broken Teeth don't pull any punches when it comes to their single-entendre lyrics and the music is unflinchingly, sandpaper rough. You can't help but get in a bar-hopping mood when you listen to Broken Teeth; you just hope that they're the house band wherever you end up.

Broken Teeth is: Jason McMaster - singer; Paul Lidel - guitars; Bruce Rivers - drums; Willy Yung - bass; Joe E. Yung - guitars.
