COLPORTER

"Sovereign Mind" (Self-Released)

Reviewed by Mike SOS

Colporter is a metal trio whose female-fronted assault can be likened to bands like Kittie, Drain STH, and Otep. On this twelve track offering, the band's heavy guitars and pounding basslines would make Korn proud, yet the iridescent female vocals add something of a Gothic vibe.

Despite the outfit's penchant for pulverizing, there's a strong melodic sensibility here as well, especially in the hooks, that gives "Sovereign Mind" a well-rounded sound with the twist needed to stand out in today's musical climate.
