CONAN

"Violence Dimension" (Heavy Psych Sounds; 2025)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

As if the band's name didn't clue you in, Conan play some of the heaviest, meatiest, most speaker-destroying music out there. And "Violence Dimension" isn't going to change that.

Eight tracks, five of which run over nine brutal minutes each, of pummeling down-tuned guitars, Godzilla-stomp rhythms, fuzzed up production and vocals that sound as though they're coming from the depths of hell. That's "Violence Dimension." That's Conan. Turn this up loud enough and it'll explode out of your listening device and let loose roaring bulldozers on your home.

As regular readers may remember, recently I've been listening a lot to the slowed-down, devastating rock from labels such as this one (Heavy Psych Sounds), Blues Funeral and others. But I've been listening to Conan for a long time, mostly thanks to my son (known on this site as Spudbeast) who introduced me to Conan years ago. I believe we first saw them open for High on Fire. "Violence Dimension" carries on the tradition that Conan began all those years ago: It's crushingly heavy music that'll shake the walls of your home or office until your old Kiss and Judas Priest posters fall off. And it that ain't art, I don't know what is.
