"One Thing Remains" (TVT; 2005)

Reviewed by Snidermann

Rock'n'roll in its many forms appeals to just about everybody who listens to heavy music. If it's good -- be it classic rock or heavy metal -- I will listen to it.

Default are by no means heavy metal, but they are an exceptional rock'n'roll band that does the genre justice. "One Thing Remains" rocks just as well as anything else I've heard recently. It's good, old fashioned rock'n'roll, done with huge talent and plenty of heart.

There's a fine line to walk with this kind of music. Without raw talent and a dose of originality, you can easily fall into the spongerock category. Bands like Default, on the other hand, have so much originality and talent that they stand over and above the others as a killer rock'n'roll band.

This band has moxie and that alone earns them points in my book.

Default: Dave Benedict - bass; Danny Craig - drums; Jeremy Hora - guitar; Dallas Smith - vocals.

"The Fallout" (TVT; 2001)

Reviewed by Jeff Rogers

Default are another product of Vancouver, Canada and Chad Kroegar from Nickelback helped them out with a demo he received and, of course, the rest is history. Default sound like Creed and rock like Nickelback. There's nothing wrong with that but they are not original with this approach. The post-grunge era produced more bands than anyone could keep up with and Default falls right in there with the rest of them.

Still, the music is good and those who like a band that doesn't complain about everything will like Default. This release just doesn't have anything new to offer. One plus here is the included video for "Wasting My Time."

The best songs on the CD are, "Sick & Tired," "Deny," and "Wasting My Time."

Default: Dallas Smith - vocals; Jeremy James Hora - guitar & backing vocals; Dave Benedict - bass; Danny Craig - drums.

So-so. You've heard better.

Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.

Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
