EVEN X

"Angry Mirror" (Sunland Records; 2004)

Somewhere between Sevendust, Alice In Chains and Disney's Haunted Mansion lies Even X and their CD, "Angry Mirror."

Heavier than your typical nu-metal but melodic enough to appeal to those who don't like to go too far extreme, "Angry Mirror" is a fascinating audio excursion. Eerie at times, hardcore at others and melodic when the time is right -- and featuring vocals that are perfectly balanced between clean and otherwise -- "Angry Mirror" is consistently entertaining throughout, drawing the listener fully into the band's world with seemingly little effort.

The band pulls no punches lyrically either, covering global topics such as war and individual concerns like the hollow feeling of helplessness.

At nearly an hour, the CD does overstay its welcome a little but that's a minor complaint. For most of that running time, Even X delivers and that's really all that matters.
