THE EVIL QUEENS

"First It Boils, Then It Spills" (Addison Records; 2005)

As the saying goes, you can't judge a book by its cover. However, sometimes if the cover sucks, it will prejudice you against the book.

That's what happened to me when I tried to review The Evil Queens. The band's name turned me off right away but, when I started listening to the CD, I found that most of the music was entertaining and fun. The rest I could do without.

I may not like the band's name, but I do like the CD's title: "First It Boils, Then it Spills." Still, I found the entire project confusing and hard to figure out and not in a good way.

As near as I can figure from "First It Boils," The Evil Queens are very talented, but have no real direction.

A classic. This record will kick your ass.

Killer. Not a classic but it will rock your world.

So-so. You've heard better.

Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.

Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
