"Force Against the End" (Wormholedeath; 2026)

FireFlame's "Force Against the End" is the band's debut on Wormholedeath Records, a label that I typically associate with black metal, death metal and the like. And, while "Force Against the End" certainly has aspects of those genres, their sound is unique and modern, mixing in hints of classic heavy metal into the darker, heavier atmosphere and delivering a sound all their own.
Throughout this album, FireFlame's twin guitars lifts the band's sound to epic levels, delivering leather-tearing riffs, crunchy heavy metal chords and blistering solos. At times, the band sounds more like their death metal labelmates, as on the funky "Something Is Wrong" or the raging "Let Her Burn." At other times, the band sounds closer to Judas Priest ("Scapegoat") or Dio ("City of Corruption"). At all times, and on all tracks, the band filters in their own modern metal sound, giving each track an identify of its own.
The lone standout here is "Not The Man You Think," a gentle, slow-paced, track that focuses more on heartfelt emotion than ass-kicking metal. It's almost a ballad but not so much that you'd find it on a classic rock radio station these days.
No matter what, "Force Against the End" is an interesting, engrossing listen from beginning to end. Those looking for a modern spin on the harder, edgier, fast, darker heavy metal will probably find this album to their liking.
