HORROR SCENE

"Where Killers Go to Die" (Severed Hand, LLP; 2025)

In or about September of 2025, the Suicide Puppets changed their name to Horror Scene. At the time, according to the band's drummer, Veritas Suicide, "This isn't about leaving the past behind—it's about leveling up." The band claimed that the new name was more appropriate for their sound with its horror themes, the band's live show's and their stage personas.

I gotta say I'm aboard with all of that. If I had read that Suicide Puppets were releasing an album called "Where Killers Go to Die," I probably would have thought of a more industrial sound, an acidic style, kind of like something Static-X would come up with. And I'd be okay with that, but I'd also be wrong. "Where Killers Go to Die," is a horror-themed record in the vein of Rob Zombie, Wednesday 13 and the Misfits. Horror Scene is a band name that better fits that style, gives you a better idea of what your in for.

The EP starts with the title track, a steamroller of a track that sets the pace for what's to come. "Piggy" is up next, with its driving rhythm, its growling vocals and its hooked guitar riff. The haunting "Nightmares" is up next and it's a perfect mix of ethereal guitars and grinding sound; "Monsters" is one of the slower-paced tracks on the EP but still delivers the goods. And the EP closes out with "Devil You Don't Know," and its tumbling riffs and sound is a great way to close out the EP.

As I'm writing this review, we're ten days away from Christmas 2025 and, yeah, this may not be the season for horror rock, but I'm sure glad I came across Horror Scene's "Where Killers Go to Die" to clear out all that Mariah Carey, Kelly Clarkson, Bing Crosby noise. I mean, there's a time and place for that ... and maybe it's even now ... but I'll take "Piggy" over "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" any day.
