LEGION

"Rising" (CD Baby; 2019)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

Legion's "Rising" album is solid enough hard rock in the Whitesnake vein. The guitars are heavy and sharp, the vocals are confident and strong and the music takes you along for the entire running time. Somehow, however, the music just doesn't get into you. This may be due to the somewhat lackluster production here; it seems that maybe a little knob-twisting could give this album's sound a little more impact. The choruses seem to be a little soft and maybe that was what the band was looking for but I think it takes some of the oomph out of the recording.

Fans of this particular genre (i.e., the above-mentioned Whitesnake, maybe a little Bad Company) will probably find something here to their liking. Me, I was looking for just a little more edge.

Legion: Phil Vincent - Vocals; Vince O'Regan - Guitars; Irvin Parrat - Keyboards; Gavin Cooper - Bass; Andy Pierce - drums.
