LONG WINTER'S STARE

"The Tears of Odin's Fallen" (Dark Symphonies)

Reviewed by Alicia Downs

"The Tears of Odin's Fallen" comes across like a demon's opera; it's what Enigma would sound like if they were a little more dark and a lot less monk. If you went to hell, it is conceivable that the ghoulish choir might sound like Long Winter's Stare.

Self-described as 'symphonic dark metal,' "The Tears of Odin's Fallen" is an epic masterpiece complete with compelling instrumental arrangements matched with a harmonious blend of operatic female vocals and male death metal grunting. The combination is hauntingly relaxing, exploiting a wealth of emotions if you allow yourself to be vulnerable for even a second.

The horror of it all is that something that seems so dark, so evil, can also be so therapeutic. With drastic incorporations of classical and death metal music "The Tears of Odin's Fallen" becomes a captivating work of art that can agitate your psyche long after the first listen.
