MEMFIS

"The Wind Up" (Candlelight; 2007)

Reviewed by Mike SOS

Memfis is yet another Swedish metal troupe whose sound is easy to get lost in, thanks to its melodically progressive leanings. "The Wind Up" is an 11-track release which acts as a Cliff Notes of sorts from the works of bands like Opeth, as this act includes all of the acoustic interludes and technicality in a succinct form.

Tracks like "Cover It Up" and "Forever Discounted" manage to harness the bombastic nature of this genre in a condensed form, perfect for the fan who doesn't have time to mess around yet still yearns to enjoy well-crafted melodic death metal like "The Judgment".
