METALIAN

"Rock Solid" (Heavy Artillery; 2011)

Reviewed by Jeff Rogers

Traditional heavy metal: Crunchy riffs that give way to blistering solos, pounding drums with a galloping bass and vocals that soar higher and higher -- that's what you get when cueing up Metalian. Vocalist Ian Wilson has a range that mirrors Rob Halford and Geoff Tate so get ready and try to hit his high notes.

Ian's guitar work is also exceptional. He's got some nasty riffs in his arsenal and, when he revs the motor to high output, be prepared for some awesome music that takes you back to a time when solos were the meat and potatoes of a song.

Even though this was released in 2011 it feels like 1985; the music may be retro but the sound is much better than before. This disc is only six songs but it leaves a lasting mark. Ian is metal so naturally you would get Metalian!

Metalian: Ian Wilson – guitar, lead vocals; Dru Donovan – drums; Andreas Arango – bass.
