JARED JAMES NICHOLS

"Louder Than Fate" (Frontiers Srl; 2026)

"Louder Than Fate" is a straight-forward hard rocking album with a slight Southern tinge. It's ten tracks of crunchy chords, mid-tempo rhythms and some truly fiery leads. Much of it reminds me of Bon Jovi's "Blaze of Glory" (aka "Young Guns" soundtrack) and there's nothing wrong with that. There's nothing that's new here, no chances taken. There's nothing experimental and there's no coloring outside of the lines. It just does what it's supposed to do: Rock you safely and soundly. It's goal is to engage you for about 40 minutes and not make you use your brain too much. And, again, that's okay. It's entertainment, pure and simple and, as that, it does its job.

Are there other, more challenging albums like this out there? Of course, there are. But, as far as pure, simple, rock'n'roll entertainment goes, you can do far worse than "Louder Than Fate."

"Jared James Nichols" (Round Hill Records (Frontline); 2023)

Reviewed by Snidermann

There is just something about a three piece rock'n'roll band to get the musical juices flowing. Jared James Nichols has played with (and learned from) various musicians such as Joe Bonamassa, Peter Frampton, Slash, Billy Gibbons and Zakk Wylde, just to name a few.

There is something raw and driving about this music. Unlike some other three man bands out there, that use over dubs and recording tricks to enhance their music, JJN uses nothing of the sort. All his band does is play straight-forward music with more than a bit of a kick. I can only imagine what this shit sound like live and hopefully I will get a chance to witness that myself soon.

JJN is what you want to hear when listening to a three piece rock outfit: raw, gritty with no bullshit. JJN has been around for awhile and, if his other music is anything like this recording, we are all in for a treat.

Joining Jared on this recording are Dennis Holm on drums and Diego Edsel on bass.
