MAX NAVARRO
"Hard Times" (Cherry Lips Records; 2012)
Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton
Max Navarro's "Hard Times" is a serviceable melodic rock album that never really grabs you, but never really turns you away, either. It's a radio-friendly collection of adequate rock tunes along the lines of Dire Straits and Bruce Springsteen. And, while those certainly aren't bad artists to be compared to, they're not exactly the hard rock, heavy metal or punk that Rough Edge readers are looking for. And neither is Max Navarro.
Not a bad album by any means -- the songwriting shows particular promise -- but "Hard Times" is geared more for the melodic pop rock fan than headbangers.
Performing on "Hard Times" are Max Navarro - vocals; John Paul Belluci - lead guitar; Nick Mayer (guitar); Jack Novell - bass; Simone Morettin - drums.
