ON BROKEN WINGS

"Some of Us May Never See the World" (Eulogy)

Reviewed by Snidermann

One thing a CD should not be is hard to listen to. Unfortunately, On Broken Wings's "Some of Us May Never See the World" is just that.

It's not that the entire CD is bad. In fact, I really liked the music contained herein. It's a sonic locomotive that never seems to let up.

Unfortunately, the vocal growling is some of the worst I've heard. Some call it "cookie monster" vocals - well, they're partially correct. Even with the lyrics sheet right in front of me, I still could not identify the words that were being sung. Yeah, some people might like that. Me, it ruins an otherwise great tune. Cookie Monster? No. I can understand Cookie Monster. But the monster part is right: the vocals on "Some of Us May Never See the World" sound like a monster singing in some, indecipherable, long dead language.

Great music, shitty vocal style. The way I look at it, if I can't understand what you're singing, you might as well be all instrumental. But, if this is your type of music, On Broken Wings might just be your kind of band.
