RHINO BUCKET

"And Then It Got Ugly" (Acetate; 2006)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

Rhino Bucket return with their first studio CD in twelve years and, you know what? It's like they've never been gone.

"And Then It Got Ugly" is heavy with chunky AC/DC boogie guitars, raw Bon Scott-like vocals and irresistible hooks at every turn. There's no way you can put on this CD and not think of "TNT"-era AC/DC. But don't think of Rhino Bucket as just another band that sounds something like AC/DC. Instead, this band wears their classic rock sound like a badge of honor and avoid the pratfalls of trying to sound modern. In other words, "And Then It Got Ugly" is fresher than most new releases because it's unafraid of delving into the hugely successful sounds of the past.

The perfect CD to listen to when you feel like a beer, a cigarette and some solid rock'n'roll, "And Then It Got Ugly" marks a very welcome return for one of rock's unabashed purveyors of rock in its purest form.

Rhino Bucket: Georg Dolivo - vocals, guitar; Brian Fosythe - lead guitar; Reeve Downes - bass; Jackie Enx - drums.

"And Then It Got Ugly" (Acetate; 2006)

Reviewed by Snidermann

The self proclaimed, AC/DC-inspired Rhino Bucket take the reigns of Bon Scott-style vocals and puts them in an updated musical style.

The vocals give it away from the first moment you hear them: at first, you think Georg Dolivo is just trying to rip off Bon Scott's style. However, after listening to the CD further, you discover Dolivo is just reveling in Scott's style and not trying to rip it off.

I knew this band was out there but for some reason or another I never checked them out. "And Then It Got Ugly" is slow boogie- type rock that's better than anything else in its genre out there today. Frankly, I'm glad a band is still out there, pushing this style. It's a refreshing change from all the different, heavier, hardcore metal acts.

As soon as I started listening to "Then It Got Ugly" I knew I had been missing something by not checking out Rhino Bucket earlier. But I'm going to remedy that now.
