SPIKE 1000

"S1K" (Columbia)

Reviewed by Christopher J. Kelter

This two-song sampler demo features songs from Spike 1000's debut CD, "Waste Of Skin." "Make Me Suffer" and "Manwhore" are vehemence soaked tales of hatred and retribution.

"Make Me Suffer" sounds like a little bit like Sevendust with its controlled aggression and groove-laden nu-metal-ish riffs. "Manwhore" avoids easy comparisons with full-bore hatred and a surprising knack for the right kind of forceful melody.

Although I would not be a likely candidate to purchase "Waste Of Skin," I can definitely say that this two-track sampler is convincing enough to make me suggest that fans of nu-metal’s broadest purveyors check out the album.

Spike 1000: Shannon Harris on vocals, Bill Thompson on guitars, M-Fat on bass, and Jeff Jones on drums. Malcolm Springer contributed keyboards.
