"Under My Skin" (Sticky Audio Labs; 2014)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

The four songs on Tempt's "Under My Skin" EP are instantly addictive, and as they play through you'll feel as though you've heard ... and enjoyed ... these songs before. And that's a good thing, because "Under My Skin" is a throwback to the days when heavy metal got radio play, when you couldn't go a day without hearing Ratt, Great White, KISS or Europe on your daily FM station.

Yeah, those days (for the most part) are gone, which is what makes "Under My Skin" so much fun. The EP starts out with the very Ratt-like title track and is followed by the very catchy "Use It or Lost It" and "The Fight" (which sounds a little like it could have come off KISS's "Crazy Nights" CD). And, of course, it closes with the ballad-like "Time Won't Heal." It's precisely half of what you'd expect from a full-length Tempt album and it leaves you wanting more.

The band isn't doing anything new on "Under My Skin," and I'd be disappointed if they did. However, they do deliver a nice helping of retro hard rock that will have you reaching for the repeat button as soon as the four tracks are done playing. Unfortunately, that's the biggest problem with this (and most any) EP. There just isn't enough music. That being said, I very much look forward to hearing more from Tempt.

Tempt: Harrison Marcello - Guitar; Zach Allen - Vocals; Zak Gross - Bass; Jimmi Kane - drums.
