"That Darn Punk" (Kung Fu Records; 2001)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

This soundtrack from the punk rock short film is packed to the gills with punk rock bands you've heard of (Nerf Herder, The Vandals, Pennywise, Rancid) and probably a couple you haven't heard of. In between many of the songs are snatches of dialogue from the film that act as track introductions.

Although Ozma's "Domino Effect" is perhaps the most recognizable tune to those who have seen "That Darn Punk" (and, if you haven't, do yourself a favor and check out the bizarre thing - http://www.thatdarnpunk.com), Nerf Herder's "Siegfried and Roy" is easily the funniest song on the CD. The Vandals are featured on three different tracks, including "The Theme From That Darn Punk" and that's with good reason because Vandal bandmember Joe Escalante is the star of the film.

Bottom line here is easy: If you like the bands on this CD (the tracks are listed below) or you've seen "That Darn Punk," pick up this soundtrack collection. You won't be disappointed.

Included on the "That Darn Punk" soundtrack are:
NERF HERDER "Siegfried & Roy"
BIGWIG "Still"
LAGWAGON "After You My Friend"
THE VANDALS "Right on Q"
OZMA "Domino Effect"
PENNYWISE "Alien"
THE ATARIS "Ben Lee"
AFI "Dream of Waking"
ANTIFREEZE "The Ides"
NO MOTIV "Only You"
M16 "Jabberwocky"
RANCID "GGF"
AJB "Doodis"
SLOPPY SECONDS "Queen of Outer Space"
SWINGIN' UTTERS "The Lonely"
