WAYWARD SHOT

"Missing Pistol" (Nightworks Records; 2024)

Reviewed by Snidermann

I have stated on these pages that I like five-member rock bands; however, that is not the only configuration I like. I also like the three person band; The Stray Cats, Motorhead, Rush, ZZ Top and Y&T (just to name a few).

My current project is a band out of Alaska called Wayward Shot and their release "Missing Pistol." What a great, balls-out recording! Right from the first note, I knew this band was something special. Ten songs and forty minutes of rock music that sounds better really loud. I have listened to this album four or five times now and each time it just gets better.

Wayward Shot has it all, killer musicianship, great songwriting and a shitload of attitude that drips from each and every cut. Check out their music wherever you stream. Although it's not on this particular album, check out their cover of Rush’s "Tom Sawyer." They did not change much (and why would you?), but it is still a very cool tribute to Rush.

Wayward Shot is awesome and I can only guess what they would be like live. They played in Los Angeles at the end of December 2024 and, of course, I did not know them then; otherwise I would have been there!

Wayward Shot's "Missing Pistol" is a great introduction (for me) to a truly amazing band.

So-so. You've heard better.

Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.

Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
