...Tommy Byrnes wants you experience something a little different with his new CD, "Alehouse Insurrections," due on August 31st. Says Byrnes: "I thought I should record a few songs that had been around for a while, but I really wanted to start from scratch and write new stuff for the project. I ended up with about 21 tracks recorded and pared them down to the nine that made it." Byrnes continues, "I have always been a little schizophrenic music-wise and I figured I'd just roll the dice and see what came out. The album became an amalgam of all these influences." The concept for the new band began last summer when Byrd and DeVitto, during a casual conversation, admitted their were anxious to get back on the road. ...Steve Kilbey or THE CHURCH and Jeffrey Cain of REMY ZERO have joined forces to create ISIDORE, which just happens to be the name of their upcoming, obviously self-titled CD. The ten-song release, which will be released on October 12, 2004, was recorded by Cain and Kilbey in completely different studios at completely different times and mixed together later. How did this all begin? Says Cain, "While Steve was touring America with The Church, his guitarist Marty Willson-Piper passed him a copy of an instrumental I had written. The song was a 'thank you'? for years of inspiration. I received a call from Steve that evening, saying that he had finished lyrics. ...Singer-Songwriter Bill Madden is in the middle of an interesting controversy. The artist's new CD, "Samsara's Grip," features a photo of a three year old boy muscling a resistance band in his underwear with his johnson hanging out for the world to see. Outrageous? One might think so. But consider that the image is a photo of young Bill Madden himself. Says Madden of the cover's controversy: "It's outrageous. At three years old, you're out in the front yard running around naked. Here's this picture of this kid lifting a resistance-band, straining his mightiest, and a moment is captured that is so innocent; and yet, there are people who have a big problem with it. It's just amazing to me, but I'm not surprised. Since 9/11, America seems to be embracing a nationalistic, overzealous mind-set that is so unbending, narrow-minded and myopic that it reminds me of the mentality that permeated 1930s Germany. I'd like to say thanks to all the fans that came to the shows, listened to the
cd's, bought the merch, and believed in us. Also thanks to any Mag/Web/Fanzine
who reviewed a Ditchwater CD, any radio station who played our music, and all
the bands we have shared the stage with. It was a long, but fun 10 year ride for
the name Ditchwater. A name that has seen many member changes, but the music
always stayed strong throughout adversity. There were many highlights and a lot
of bumps in the road, but I will have fond memories of everything the band
accomplished. I will continue adding old and rare MP3's to the site as well as
videos in the future. Please leave your thoughts about the band on the Message
Board on www.ditchwater.com. If you wish
