Starring Steven Culp, Clea Duvall, Julie Strain, Jason Marsden
The latest in the updated horror film series from special effects guru Stan Winston. This time, a team of greedy video game creators out-do themselves and create a video game whose artificial intelligence leads it to believe they are the enemy! Great fun!

KATE & LEOPOLD (Miramax)
Starring Meg Ryan, Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber, Breckin Meyer, Natasha Lyonne, Bradley Whitford, Paxton Whitehead
Exactly what you expect it to be. A silly little romance with Ryan starring as a woman stung by love and Jackman as a man from the past who falls desperately in love with her. A time travel romance that is certainly entertaining enough, mostly thanks to Jackman's stand-out performance. Rated PG-13; 123m. Also available on DVD.

AIR BUD: SEVENTH INNING FETCH (Disney)
Starring Kevin Zegers, Richard Karns, Caitlin Wachs, Cynthia Stevenson.
The sports-playing dog returns, this time joining a Junior High baseball team. More of the same, but, hey, that's apparently what the fans want. Rated G; Also available on DVD.

THE ATTIC EXPEDITIONS (First Look)
Starring Seth Green, Jeffrey Combs, Alice Cooper
A coma patient awakens to discover that he's been accused of murdering his fiancée. Creepy and stylistic but more chaotic than genuinely frightening. Still, it's great to see the likes of Green "Buffy The Vampire Slayer," Combs ("Re-Animator") and Alice Cooper working together.

MAX KEEBLE'S BIG MOVE (Buena Vista)
Starring Alex D. Linz, Zena Grey, Josh Peck, Larry Miller, Jamie Kennedy, Orlando Brown, Amber Valletta, Robert Carradine, Nora Dunn, Noel Fisher
A young nerd goes after all those who have wronged him when his parents tell them they're moving. Of course, he's just about completed his mission of vengeance when his parents tell him they've changed their minds. Rated PG; 86m. Also available on DVD.

ORANGE COUNTY (Paramount)
Starring Colin Hanks, Jack Black, Schuyler Fisk, Lily Tomlin, Catherine O'Hara, Harold Ramis
An outstanding high school student has his shot at Stanford blown by a moronic teacher and must use his slob of a brother to help correct the problem. A little like a modern day "Animal House" with Black stepping nicely into the shoes of the late, great John Belushi. Great fun if you're willing to go with the flow.

ROLLERBALL (MGM)
Starring Chris Klein, LL Cool J, Rebecca Romjin-Stamos
The much-maligned remake of the 1975 James Caan film about the world's most extreme sport. Sadly, it's as bad as you've heard. A meandering script, confusing direction, a story that makes absolutely no sense. This one is almost truly unwatchable. Rent the original instead. The first ten minutes of that film alone are better than anything this re-make has to offer.

THE SHIPPING NEWS (Buena Vista)
Starring Kevin Spacey, Julianne Moore, Judi Dench, Scott Glenn, Cate Blanchett
The film based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel comes to VHS and DVD. Directed by Lasse Hallstrom.

A BEAUTIFUL MIND (Universal)
Starring Russell Crowe, Ed Harris, Jennifer Connelly, Christopher Plummer
Winner for Best Picture, this film about a mathematician and his struggle with mental illness - and his eventual triumph by winning a Nobel Prize - is a mesmerizing film that takes one deep into the illness. With fantastic performances, especially by Oscar-winner Jennifer Connelly and Russell Crowe - who, for my money, deserved an Oscar for this film far more than the one he garnered for "Gladiator." In addition, you've got Ed Harris, always fantastic, and direction by Ron Howard, who proves his lost none of his magic touch. Strangely, the film's one weak point - the Oscar-winning(?!) screenplay by Akiva Goldsman, is actually enhanced by the talent surrounding it both behind and in front of the cameras. And ignore the controversy on whether this film tells the truth or not - it doesn't really matter. It's the film story that the audience is interested in, and "A Beautiful Mind" delivers. Rated PG-13; 135m. also available in a two-DVD set in two editions - widescreen and full screen (go widescreen, go widescreen!).

GOSFORD PARK (USA/Universal)
Starring Michael Gambon, Kristen Scott Thomas, Maggie Smith, Charles Dance, Jeremy Northam, Bob Balaban, Alan Bates, Helen Mirren, Stephen Fry, Derek Jacobi, Emily Watson, Richard E. Grant, Ryan Phillippe
Acclaimed director Robert Altman directed this critically acclaimed and Oscar-nominated film about power struggles at all levels of society - struggles that eventually lead to murder. Rated R; 137m; Also available on DVD.
