Sentinels of New Dawn," the new album from AQUILLA, will be released on October 31st via High Roller Records. Says the band's Peter Slammer: "There is an existing lore within our songs. We are all enthusiasts of both classic and modern sci-fi creations, and thus our music tells a story of mankind's last remaining survivors who decide to settle on a distant planet called Yvad'a'ra. The previous album was where that concept was fully developed and is continued on this record. The story picks up some time after the previous one. The titular 'New Dawn' is what humans called this new era of their history on the planet, where hundreds of settlements were established, and different fractions arose, fractions that aren't necessarily friendly towards each other. So we have mad space pirates ('Plunder And Steel', crazy berserk-like mercenaries ('Battalion 31') or technological overlords ('Technocrat's Tyranny'). And everyone fights each other, just like in real life. This was also quite a challenge for Captain Paradox as a lyricist and joining in to a band that has this type of pre-established lore. Catching up with the story and adjusting the writing approach were necessary, so it would fit the concept, as both 'Sentinels Of New Dawn' and 'Mankind's Odyssey' are pretty much concept albums. The lore itself isn't that strict really, apart from the general concept of mankind on a distant planet, so it leaves a lot of room for imagination, creativity and open interpretations for the audience as well" ... According to frontman Fraser Simpson: "Summer 2022 we were sailing down the interstate heading from Houston, Texas, to Austin when all of a sudden the worst thing happened - no brakes. I was driving at the time and so to not create panic, I didn't mention our predicament to the rest of the guys until I managed to grind the van to a halt with what brake fluid we had left. What happened next was a week of being stranded in Austin (s/o Rare Bloom for letting us crash) while we waited for an out of stock part to arrive to fix our van. The mechanic then said our vehicle was so rusted he wouldn't advise driving 50 yards down the street, we cancelled shows, we ran out of money, we considered flying home. The poignant lyric 'Nothing ever goes our way' repeats throughout the song because honestly, nothing has ever gone our way. But here we are, back again, doing the thing we love because we're young and dumb and would like another excuse to get in a van and tour the continent.
